Namebio.com Owner - Justin Allen

Justin Allen is the owner of the popular domaining website Namebio.com where you can research what specific domains have sold for. The tool can help you get a better idea on what your domain might be worth.

First of all, I just want to thank you Justin for taking some time to spend with us and tell what you are all about and share some tips.

Could you tell us just a little bit about yourself? Your name, location, age, some interesting facts, etc.
My name is Justin Allen. I currently live in Tempe, AZ which is just outside of Phoenix, Arizona. I turn 27 years old tomorrow. I attended San Diego State University and Arizona State University where I focused on Political Science and history.

When did you first start getting involved in the online industry?
I became involved in the Domain industry in 2005 when I went to work for Godaddy.com, that’s when I first started to see that money could be made in this industry.

What is a typical day in the life of Justin Allen?
The typical day starts off with me crawling out of bed and heading over to my office. I begin with what most people do, checking my email. I frequently get offers and they need responding to. I then get my checklist running for NameBio.com to do its scans. I check the forums, where I am a moderator and review the auctions for the day. I’ll follow that up with quite a few email inquiries based on that days “list”. This usually runs me a couple hours. The rest of the day changes based on responses to emails and auctions.

A lot of our readers aren’t involved in the domain industry. But after reading this, if they wanted to get involved, where would you suggest them to start?
If you wanted to get started in the Domain industry, you’ll need to do some major homework. I suggest joining NamePros.com and DNForum.com to start to “learn” the industry. I would also suggest doing a solid 2-3 weeks of just reading and asking questions. Its time consuming, but most rookies jump in and make very bad first moves.

What domains as of right now do you think are the best to invest into?
Determining which domains are the best to invest in is going to change based on your budget. If you have a budget of say x,xxx, you have the ability to grab great keywords that generate traffic. If your budget is low xxx, you may want to consider scouring the forums and drop auctions for better deals. I stick with keyword based domain names as opposed to brand domain names. A Keyword domain would be like: ChocolateMilk.com where as a brand domain would be TastyMilk.com.

Tell us a little about your site NameBio.com .
NameBio.com has been around since 2006. The idea behind it is simple. Record domain sales prices so that others can properly evaluate their own domains. Let’s say you want to sell your domain name - CaliforniaLoans.com (just an example, I dont own). So you look up “loans” as a keyword on NameBio. Then let’s say NevadaLoans.com sold for $3,000. That sets a marker for you to know your domain is probably worth a bit more then what NevadaLoans.com sold for. It helps you and any potential buyer/seller come to a fair market price for the domain name.

What are your future plans for NameBio.com ?
We currently have nearly 50,000 domain sales in the database and are undergoing a new redesign with more functionality. I think your readers will be very happy with the new site design and functions that will be coming. We also will be releasing a subscription section which will highlight available domain names that we believe have value. Expect that to roll out very soon.

Thanks.
Justin Allen
